How many rounds of IVF?

Hi ladies, my husband and I have been trying to have a baby for a little over 2.5 years with Male factor infertility. His motility is around 25-30% and we have had 6 failed IUI attempts. We are looking into IVF and don't know if we should go with a single cycle or a multi-cycle plan. Just wondering how many cycles it took everyone to have a live baby. With our clinic it looks like the frozen transfers is what can drive the price up pretty quickly if you dont do the multi-cycle.

Update: we didn't qualify for the multi-cycle plan with 80% refund if you dont end up with a baby. I didnt have enough follicles on the ultrasound. I think we are going to go with the 2 cycles, 2 frozen transfer plan. I dont know how I will respond to the meds so it might be best to have a second cycle for backup. We will have to do ICSI and it is included with the package. For the single cycle ICSI and freezing are extra costs. Thanks for all your responses! IVF here we come!

We went with multi cycle plan. We got pregnant the first try and sadly miscarried and then got pregnant again the second try and delivered a healthy baby. So we technically paid more than what we would have for just two rounds .. but I have no regrets and believe we made the right choice. It gave me peace of mind knowing I had at least 6 tries and that we would get our money back if it didn't work (minus the cost of medicine).

If I could go back in time, I’d do the multi cycle plan! We also didn’t realise the transfer costs would pile up. By the end of our cycle including transfers we’ll have spent the same as the 3 cycle plan

Depends on pricing but I'd go with multicycle package if its possible. We are unexplained infertility and our first round of ivf failed nothing made it to blast so we have to a second round. And then depending on how many transfers you need. I would weigh out the costs of each.

It took us 1 cycle. I’m currently in my 33rd week of pregnancy. My husband had low motility or mobility(can’t remember which one) after having had a vasectomy for 8yrs. 
Imo, bc I’ve been through it, however I’m no dr or scientist 😄 your odds of everything working out the 1st time are higher bc you, the carrier, the maker, the baker, the womb, aren’t the “problem.” Ik poor choice of words. 
When trying to decide what plan to use we also had a discussion about whether to pay for more than one cycle. The one we chose was 1 cycle and a frozen embryo transfer, bc we did psg testing and froze the remaining embryos.
I had 15 mature eggs at the retrieval and out of that we got 3 normal embryos. 2 are frozen now. Cost around 30k in Missouri.

We are lucky that my insurance paid for pretty much everything after I met my deductible which was $750. I have a lifetime benefit so once it’s gone that’s it and after this it is pretty much gone. We did our first retrieval in September 2019 and retrieved 13 eggs. We thought we only dealing with MF but after 10 eggs fertilized and pgs testing we got one normal embryo. I was devastated as I was hoping to get a few so we could give our bean a sibling later so before doing FET we decided to do another retrieval in December 2019 and ended up again with one pgs normal embryo but not as good quality so we’ll see later how that pans out. Our RE now thinks we have had some egg quality issues which added to our 8 years of not getting pregnant on our own. I’m currently 22 weeks with our embryo from the first cycle. We were advised to pay for meds out of pocket if we could financially afford it so first retrieval I paid 1/2 on credit cards and 1/2 out of pocket and second round we secured a low interest loan as the meds were about 5k each cycle. If I didn’t have insurance that helped I would have opted for a multi cycle plan just because I know what I know now and had to do more than one retrieval. Good luck 🍀

Hi! We did IVF with male factor. If you have no fertility issues yourself, you are in best case scenario for IVF because the ICSI fertilization process eliminates male factor issues. One sperm per egg needed and they are injected directly in. If the doctor believes you will respond well to meds, I don’t think getting a multiple cycle package is good unless you can get your money back if the first is successful.
