It’s actually shocking seeing people say “no”. I don’t understand...is your country literally brainwashing you about how universal healthcare works?? Is that what they tell you in school?
-I live in Canada
-it takes me half an hour to get into the walk in clinic up the road for super minor things. Cost nothing
-takes a couple hours to get in to the hospital if it’s not super serious. Costs nothing
-took my 80 year old grandma 1 month to get a kidney transplant after she finished getting all her tests done. Found a doner and boom.
-we have a thing here called “compassion”. It’s a universal mindset where we’re happy that our taxes go to making sure people don’t have to choose between death and bankruptcy.

free basic health care is one of the best things you can get in australia. i feel so lucky to be born here. imagine having to go to the doctor’s office to be only diagnosed with the cold, but then required to pay them straight up. i don’t know how much it costs in america, but i do know that medication, appointments and surgery is very expensive. i think even calling the ambulance here is for free (correct me if im wrong). basic healthcare should be free for civilians as it allows everyone to have access to what they need; this is equality. however if you need more specialised care like to go to a chiropractor, physiotherapist, a specialist surgeon, that will cost money, however that can be partially covered through private health insurance which can be customised based on your needs. but yeah, in general, free basic health care is essential to meet the needs of people.
