Irregular Periods, 25 years old

Hello everyone, so I’ve been with the same man trying to conceive for almost three years with no luck at all, I am 25 years old and my periods are really irregular! I’m on the verge of giving up and accepting the fact that my body can’t do what most other women’s can, create life. I get really depressed about it some days seeing my friends pictures online of their cute little families and all the pregnant women on my newsfeed with their beautiful baby bumps. Every time someone new announces they are having a baby I wish it was me and it was my turn to experience that beauty. Don’t get me wrong I’m extremely happy for all new parents to be, but I can’t help but be a bit jealous.

My husband has already had a kid with another woman long before me, so I know it’s not him! We do not use any drugs, neither of us are on any special medications, and we only drink on occasion. I do not know much about my husbands medical history, but as of now, he seems pretty healthy and happy. My husband and I do smoke about a pack of cigarettes a day, sharing the same pack. I have had the Gardasil shots for HPV/cervical cancer prevention. I read somewhere that it could be linked to health issues including different autoimmune disorders. I also have/have had pelvic inflammatory disease, or so that’s what the emergency room doctors said whenever I went in there for severe pelvic pain. As far as I know, I haven’t had another flare up that bad since then & that was approximately 4 maybe 5 years ago. I do get sharp pains in the pelvic region a lot though, sometimes they’re bad enough to drop me to my knees. I know that there are numerous other things that could be wrong like endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, fibroids and the like.

I had my first period whenever I was 15 and they have always been irregular. I asked doctors about it whenever I was still a teenager and they said that it’s not abnormal to have an irregular period until you’re in your 20s. I went without a period for 6 whole months and finally just had one in May! Last period before that was in November 2019! That’s the longest time I’ve ever gone without one. It’s now the end of June and I haven’t had a period for this month yet. It just comes whenever the heck it wants to! What is going on with me?

I have tried to go to my family doctor for help but every time I go, she says that I’m too young and I don’t need to be starting a family right now and pretty much blows me off each time I bring it up. I am married, own my own house, we both have full time jobs, we keep all the bills paid and then some! I am an overall pretty responsible adult for my age. I don’t think my doctor has the right to lecture me about family planning. Nobody is 100% ready to have a child, you just need a steady foundation, & you learn the rest as you go. I know it’s a big step, but I am ready to take it. I have been making all this progress for that specific reason! I want a family of my own. I’m only 5 years away from 30 so I don’t want to wait to much longer to start having babies! If I do happen to be blessed enough to get pregnant & have a child or two I want to be able to enjoy them and spend as much time with them as possible.

So please, anything...I’m open to all kinds of knowledge, tips, suggestions that will help me! Whether it be from personal experience or from reading on the topic, whatever you have to say, I’m all ears!

Here are my questions:

Should I consult with a new doctor or just make an appointment with a gynecologist immediately? How do I go about getting relevant help for my situation?

Can you track ovulation with abnormal periods? Can you even get pregnant with abnormal periods?

I know quitting cigarettes will help and is just a good idea all around, so I’m going to try that again. ANY TIPS OR SUGGESTIONS TO HELP ME QUIT SMOKING WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATES. I’ve tried quitting numerous times. I’ve tried cold turkey, which made me very sick from withdrawal. Using the patch didn’t work well for me. & I replaced cigarettes with a vape but it was just way more expensive.

I heard birth control can help regulate periods but I also heard that it is really bad for you and I don’t want to put that into my body if I’m already having problems? Are there any others ways to help get my period regular?

Will stress cause you to have wacky periods? I have been under a lot of stress for the past few months, but I am feeling a lot better as of late. Didn’t know if that could have something to do with it? Any good stress relief tips?
