this comes around on twitter yearly 🤦♀️ the entire point of throwing the baby/toddler, is that when these age groups do end up in bodies of water while unsupervised, it’s usually because they’ve fallen or jumped in. they need to know what that’s like. it’s literally teaching them how to survive in bodies of water where an adult is not present. notice how the baby actually recovers from the fall, and then moves itself so that it ends up floating on its back? that’s learnt survival tactics. it’s an amazing thing to teach your child. especially if you have a pool or grow up near rivers/beaches/lakes. also, people really do not understand trauma enough to say this child is being traumatised.

I think the swim teacher knows what they're doing. Maybe if more parents understood the importance of babies knowing these things at a young age less children would drown.

This is very common, and it makes absolute sense. they are quicker to learn and adapt to water at a young age. He's been learning for 2 m from what the article says, they didn't just throw him in. Has anyone not seen videos of babies swimming underwater by a year?

I started my son in lessons at 4m. Our swim school doesn't throw babies in, but my friend did joke about it on the first day of lessons. They do have parents dunk then, if they're comfortable, and tech them to float on their back. At nearly 20 months, my son can hold onto the wall by himself, get to the surface if you dunk him, and swim short distances.

It’s an ISR swim class. They are amazing and definitely help save lives.

Being in FL my whole life I think this is important to teach babies how to swim. I honestly don’t even remember learning how to swim because I was so young. People are quick to assume without knowing what they’re talking about.

Look into ISR (Infant Swimming Resource). They have a lot of great information, and can help you find places around you that offer lessons for infants starting at 6 months old.

It was so cool watching that video amd that baby knowing how to survive that situation. Baby eas clearly not in the beginning stages of this class. I see no problems with this.
