The best ways to learn how to do a black girls hair

Our old (not old I mean back when we were little kids she’s not much older than me) baby sitter that we had for years is a black woman. My sister is a teenage black girl living in a white family, and our ex baby sitter is still around and kindof went off on my mom for not learning how to take care of her hair even though she’s raised her, her entire life.

She explained it to me as a black girls hair is like her entire identity and it would mean something to my sister if my mom put effort into learning how to do her hair, how to properly care for it so that she feels good about herself and feels like her mom cares. Nobody has taught her either so she doesn’t know what to do with it.

And I asked her (her as in our old baby sitter) “I can try to learn and watch YouTube videos with girls who have her hair type on how to relax her hair without chemicals and how to braid, can’t i?”

She said “yes but that’s not YOUR job you’re her sister, her MOTHER needs to put that effort into her and make her feel like how she feels about herself MATTERS.” And I was like “true, but I could see it helping her self esteem if she feels good about her hair even if it’s just me putting effort.” And she was like “you’re right it would, you learn how to do that girls hair just get on YouTube and look it up.”

(Side note I forgot to mention. My sister has low self esteem about her hair and I tell her to just let her natural hair grow out and wear it natural because I personally think it looks really good on her but we are in a town with 99% white people and she gets made fun of for her hair.

I am having so much trouble finding out exactly what kind of hair type my sister has. She has the tightest curls and I’m scared I’m gonna damage her hair and every YouTube video of black women relaxing their hair, their hair is way less curly and just naturally more relaxed than hers is.

Imagine the tightest curls someone could have on their hair, and also has ALOT of hair that’s her hair. I’m looking for any type of advice on how to relax the curls. Any product recommendations or YouTube channels of women who have the tightest curl hair type.

My little sister is down for this. I’m taking her to get her ends trimmed because the ends are dead and when you pull it down you can see that the ends are so much thinner than the rest of her hair and she’s begging for a trim.

I didn’t mention this either. Our ex baby sitter and our mom do not get along now.

She used to take her to get her hair done all the time drove hours out of the way to do my sisters hair but my mom has forbidding that now.
