Birth center after medicated hospital birth
I just recently found out I am pregnant with my third and final babe so it’s incredibly important to me that I have the birthing experience I’ve always wanted. My first I was very young and not knowledgeable on the options, my second I couldn’t afford a birth center since insurance didn’t cover at the time.
I found out our new insurance covers one near us which is so exciting! BUT now I am nervous because both of my births involved epidurals and I fear I can’t handle the pushing.
Long story short, I have had bad hospital experiences. Even though I requested natural births, they continuously asked me if I wanted medication. I was stuck to the bed the whole time because I had to have an IV and a monitor on, so uncomfortable and frankly unnecessary as I was low risk. They were also rushing me from the beginning, breaking my water as soon as I got there, and giving me Pitocin even though I was progressing fine on my own. Apparently it wasn’t “fast enough” and once the Pitocin was given I couldn’t handle the pain naturally and needed an epi. Both times I was around 7/8 cm when they gave me the pitocin so I know I can handle the contractions.
I just hate feeling like my experience needed to be rushed and I wasn’t able to have the birth I’ve dreamed of. I just want to let my body do it’s thing, but I’m nervous that because I am now used to the epidurals, that once push time comes I won’t be able to handle the pain.
Has anyone gone from a hospital medicated birth to an unmedicated birth center/home birth?
I’d love to hear any experiences. Thanks!
