Correct ovulation date?

Question

Hi my cycle is 27 on average and my doctor told me to start having sex from day 12 until day 16 to catch ovulation. I have also been reseaching what day would fall on would day 13 be correct? Any opinions? Me and husband been trying for 3 months and still no luck..

I would start earlier with that length of cycle. Typically you ovulate 14 days before your next period. Although hard to tell without also knowing period length. I had 28-32 day cycles and ovulated CD13-15 based on OPKs. My periods were pretty regular at 4 days long. I started testing with OPKs once a day from CD9 then twice a day by CD11 to be sure I caught the surge. Also, the month I finally got pregnant I ovulated closer to CD10!! For the first cycle using OPKs you should really test every day after your period to get an idea of how your LH fluctuates. Even keep testing after ovulation just to note things like LH rises again before your next period. 
Also, LH rises about 12-36 hours before ovulation and your highest chance of conception is in the 3-5days BEFORE ovulation (with day before being highest). The temp change happens just after the egg releases. So OPKs are a better predictor but dont guarantee you ovulate and temping will let you know the day you ovulate after the egg is released. So temping helps you for the NEXT cycle.
I couldnt do temping because it requires checking at the same time every day and with my work and weekend schedule I couldn't do that. I would honestly recommend you have sex closer to CD9-13 unless you confirm you have a short luteal phase (the time period between ovulation and period) using OPKs. Wishing you luck!! ❤❤
