IUI cancelled zero moving sperm

Alli

We had our very first IUI cancelled this morning due to “zero moving” sperm in our sample. I’m absolutely heart broken and so is my husband.

A little back story. My husband has 3 children. Had a vasectomy shortly after his youngest was born. Met me (no kids) and had a reversal in Sept of 2018. Surgery went perfectly, no complications after. We were given an at home system to check for return of sperm called the “Trak” at 4 weeks and again at 8 weeks his numbers on that were great. We actively ttc until June 2019 when I saw my OBGYN. She ordered an official analysis, everything looked great. 108 mil count, motility 62% and no issues with anything. She encouraged us to try until we got to the 1 year mark and then come back if we didn’t get pregnant. I saw her in September and was started on clomid. My husbands surgeon ordered a round of prednisone that month too just to see if it helped. Well low and behold, I got pregnant. But it ended up being a chemical and my hcg never got over 600. We were so disappointed we decided to just try naturally for a bit longer and then see an RE.

Fast forward to 3 weeks ago, we had our first Appt. We all agreed to try IUI with clomid and a trigger. I had some labs done and an antral follicle count done. All looked good. I had an ultrasound and labs yesterday and had 2 very mature follicles and then two more that were really close. My labs indicated I’d be ovulating naturally very soon so they had me trigger last night for IUI this morning. Hubby gave sample and they called with the bad news.

My question is, who has experienced anything like this? How could his numbers change so much in just a year? Could this have been a fluke and his next analysis could be normal? Or is that wishful thinking? Any advice or similar stories much appreciated!!
