(Read description) Which is more fair for who should be invited to a fancy rehearsal dinner based on....

My mother in law insisted on planning a fancy rehearsal dinner. When she asked for my list of guests she specifically told me no aunts and uncles were coming. My aunt and Uncle were really bothered by this as we have always been close. When we got there, every single aunt and uncle of my husband’s, plus his dads best friend and his wife who aren’t even blood “aunt and uncle” were there. My mom was livid as were my aunt and uncle. Today, my mother in law tells me how my aunt is the only family member of mine that hasn’t accepted her friend request. She says that she invited nicks aunts and uncles to make the numbers fair on his side an my side. Excuse me for having an extra sibling and extra set of grandparents on my side than him. She says she wanted to make it “fair” by having the same number on my each side.

What do you think is “fair” for a rehearsal dinner? Inviting even numbers? Or inviting based on relationship to the bride and groom?
