How does getting married work?

Idk if it’s different with each state. (Ohio)
But say your engaged, you have your wedding...do you sign the papers at your wedding or you go and do it before your wedding or after? I’m just confused...lol never learned about this stuff.

I am not in Ohio but when I got married several months before the wedding we got our wedding papers. They processed them and then we picked them up for the officiant. You have to sign them in the court house. Then the officiant takes them and on the wedding day we sign them. The officiant sends them in (at least ours did)

1. You have to apply in person at probate court, both bride and groom, for marriage license. You need valid ids, social security cards etc
2. You need to apply at least 60 or more days before the wedding because it takes that long to get. Id say at least 90 days or more before.
3. Cost 60$ unless it changed
4. Then once u get the license, u bring it on your wedding day and ..... the legal officiant, you, and groom will sign it after the vows.  There will be three diff copies for u to sign and u get to keep one.
5. The signed license then has to be delivered to the court by the officiant of the wedding for it to be registered legally.

I also forgot. After youre married u will need to request a certified copy of marriage license with govt seal. I think theybare about 15$? You will probably have to go to the court or mail a stamped certified enevelope with a check aand they will send it to u. You should keep this like all your govt documents auch as ss card and passport in case someone needs to see it.

For us in FL we went to the courthouse to apply for the marriage license and then had 30 days to actually get married with our ceremony and reception.

Im in Ohio, you have to go to the courthouse and get a marriage license. Whoever marries you signs the license and mails it back to the courts. In a few weeks they send you a marriage abstract which youll use to provide proof of marriage.
