I absolutely hate the idea of naming kids after their parents. Does dad need his kid named him for some sort of security or something? I fully support giving children THEIR OWN NAME AND THEIR OWN IDENTITY.

You are definitely not selfish or disrespectful for wanting to give your son his own name. If baby is going to have dad’s last name, he is technically named after him already. I would say since he gets the last name, you get to pick the middle name, and then you can agree on the first name together. I feel like that is equally compromising. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Also, do NOT do what my husband's dad did. He gave him the same first name, but a different middle name. So for example we have a Terry John Johnson and a Terry Joseph Johnson. So confusing for mail, insurance, etc .
