Tampon Help

I just started using tampons. So far they are good and feel comfortable. The only thing I noticed was that I leak a little bit. I’ll see spots on my underwear. I just want to know is that normal? Should I buy in the next flow level? Did I put it in correctly? Should I just start using panty liners? Thank you in advance
