Sleep regression advice
Hi everyone — my 6 month-old has been dealing with big time sleep regression (which makes sense—it coincided with learning to crawl). He wakes constantly through the night, often very upset. Up until this sleep regression, he was a great nighttime sleeper from the start. We were down to 1 nighttime nursing most nights, occasionally 2, but otherwise he slept form around 7pm to around 6am every night.
I know the best practice is to help him get himself back to sleep and not interfere too much, but I just don’t know how to manage that, as he can get very, very upset if we don’t help him back to sleep. He is a very calm dude during the day and hardly cries, but when he wakes at night he cries and rolls/thrashes around in his bassinet and gets more frantic and louder until we intervene.
I’m just not sure what to do, because we need him to go back to sleep but I don’t want to make him too dependent on our involvement. Advice??
(Btw: we have a regular, clear schedule during the day and at night. Bedtime 7:15pm most nights. Solid bedtime routine, including eating, a bath, a cuddle, lullaby. He’s in a bedside cosleeper (which he has started to try to crawl up out of when he really gets crying). No health problems. Happy, playful baby.)
