how does boric acid work?

so im interesting in using boric acid suppositories to get rid of my reoccurring bv, and i was wondering if it was a one time use cure or more of a frequent use to rid of bv? i just wanted to learn fully on what i might be getting into, and idk if brand matters but im leaning towards Ph-D
