Birth Story: Pulmonary embolism after c section

Sarah • FTM was due on 7/22/2020 with a baby girl. She came early on 7/6/2020 via induction and then csection. 🥰

Hi ladies! I just wanted to share my birth story with y’all. I delivered my beautiful baby girl on Monday! I had to be induced at 37w5d due to excessive amniotic fluid. I started progressing right away but it then took forever to progress all the way. I was in labor for about a day and then finally ready to push. They had to give me some drug thats normally used for BP but works for dilation to get me the last half a centimeter to 10. Ir worked and I pushed for an hour with no progress. The baby was starting to show signs of distress and i was exhausted so I agreed to the c section my OB offered. They brought us in and turns out her cord was wrapped around her body and shoulder, so every time I pushed it pulled her back in. She was born healthy at 6lb 12oz. The next few days were very routine and I started and progressed through the healing process very well. I made sure to start moving quickly and take a lot of walks. I was released Thursday morning with a clean bill for me and the baby. The next few days at home were a (tiring) dream but amazing with our baby girl. Last night, I started feeling lightheaded and short of breath. We took my BP with the cuff we have at home and it was 176/105, which is high in general but very high for me. We decided to go to the ER and I was diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism and admitted to the hospital. Since being here I’ve been poked and prodded about to death. I had to see a cardiologist due to the stress the clot put on my heart. Because I’m breastfeeding I’ll be on a blood thinner that I have to inject into my stomach twice a day for at least the next 3 months. Long term care is still in question. I’m staying in the hospital again tonight just for monitoring but should be released tomorrow. I have been so emotional and scared but they let me visit with my baby outside the hospital today and that has made me so much stronger. Can’t wait to go home tomorrow and thankful we went to the hospital when we did.
