50 percent effaced - what does this mean??

I’m 38 weeks pregnant and got checked today - 1 cm dilated and 50 percent effaced
Does the 50 percent effaced mean it’s happening soon?!  Is this a big deal?!  Tell me what y’all think!

Effaced means the cervix is thinning out, which has to happen with dilation for baby to come out. 50% means body is on way, but it’s impossible to know how quickly you will go from 50% to 100%. Sometimes this happens quickly? Other times you can be at 50% for weeks. The dilation has to get to 10cm as well, this can happen again quickly or over weeks. Many women are 1-3cm for weeks before they actually go into labor.

Doesn’t mean it’s happening soon, doesn’t mean it’s not happening soon. Some people are dilated and effaced for weeks before delivery. I wasn’t dilated or effaced are all until the day I delivered

Its a big deal because things are starting to happen and your body is getting ready for the baby to come. But your still going to play the waiting game. I was 3 cm dialted for 3 weeks when i finally went into labor a week late.
