Do you lose your mucus plug before going into labor?

Question

First time mom here and today I am 37+2 pregnant. I could go into labor any day now. My question is, will I see mucus plug discharge first before I get my real labor contractions? Is that always the case or it’s possible to go into labor without having any mucus plug discharge ?

Some women lose it and see it , some women lose it and don’t see it, some women lose it right before pushing .... so basically ... you may never know .

I’ve asked the same question before and from what I’ve been told some women don’t pass it till actually in labor or even a few hours before giving birth. Everyone is different.

I didn’t loose mine on my own. I’m assuming when they had to break my water at hospital it came out 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was losing some of it at 36 and 5. I had to get induced at 37 weeks because of complications in my pregnancy so I went to the hospital to get checked out. I wasn't dilated or showing any signs of labour and they sent me home. Sometimes you lose some and then it regenerates itself and you dont go into labour. I guess its not a definitive answer if your going into labour or not 🤷🏻‍♀️

I lost my mucous plus and 30 minutes later contractions were consistent. Delivered my son the next day!

I never lost mine. I guess it just came out during the active labor part. I never had the “bloody show” or anything.

I second the first two comments. You might, but you might not. It’s not a real “requirement” or even an indication that labor is near. 
I didn’t haven anything with my first baby, and I *think* I had a small amount of show with my second, but I’m unsure 
Either way, neither time gave me any hints of labor lol
