How do you get the depo shot?

I have bad anxiety I want to know everything before I even make a doctor's appointment. Girls who've had it, what happened? Do they give it right there and then? Or do you have to get a prescription? Then make another appointment? Please and thank you.

When I started taking it, they gave it to me right then. They alternate sides with each appointment  (ie, left arm first appointment, right arm second, and so on). Some doctors give it in the hip area instead of arm.
