Is skinny shaming on the same level as fat shaming?

I went my whole life getting asked if I was anorexic, getting told that hugging me is “ like hugging a skeleton”, and being told to eat a burger. In the moment it didn’t bother me, because I know it’s people with good intentions. I have pretty thick skin so at the end of the day the comments don’t make a difference. It’s not healthy to be to skinny or too overweight, but no one should make derogatory comments about anyone’s weight-regardless of where it is. Skinny shaming is definitely a thing.

The PC answer is that they are the same...that's what you are supposed to say.
Do I personally think that they ARE regarded as the same? No...no I dont. 
Being thin is considered a virtue. Its exaulted in the main stream, seen as desirable in circles and not considered derogatory but rather as healthy and something to aspire to. 
Being obese on the other hand is considered derogatory. Its frught with shame, associated with gluttony and loss of control, not considered attractive in some circles and signals lack of health.
I'm not saying I agree with these distinctions, I certainly dont.... but I dont make the rules I'm just forced to live with them as we all are. 
It's kinda depressing to be honest.

Skinny shaming is a thing and definitely problematic, but it is NOT on the same level as fat shaming. You don’t hear people running around saying they wish they were fat, they say they wish they were skinny/skinnier. Skinny people are represented everywhere, while fat people barely are. In today’s society, a lot of people would rather be underweight than overweight.

As someone that has been both I would tell you that they are not the same level because skinny is seen as good thing in the media. Skinny shaming definitely exists but it’s a totally different thing than fat shaming. Even if you are too skinny to many people, there’s still tons of people that have been conditioned by the media to desire your body type. With fat it’s only shaming and hatred.

It can do just as much emotional damage to someone as fat shaming can.
Society as a whole might be more cruel to fat people, but that doesn’t mean that it’s any less hurtful when people skinny shame someone.

Since I'm not skinny, I only know what it's like to be fat shamed. So I'm not sure how I could compare the two since I haven't experienced what it's like.

They are absolutely both terrible and everyone should be treated with respect, but I don’t know that I would say they are on the same scale. As a culture, we hold up skinny bodies as the ideal of beauty- just look at Victoria’s secret models. I’m not saying that thin people haven’t faced mean or hurtful comments, but it is not on the same societal-wide level as fat phobia. 
Being fat/overweight has an enormous moral judgement attached to it in our culture in a way that being skinny does not.
