I haven’t taken my son to get a haircut since February. Yes, it’s because of COVID and even now with places being open he’d have to wear a mask (my state requires them for 2+, he’s 2.5), and it would be a general pain, not to mention the risk, even if small, of being exposed. But it’s also that I kind of like his hair longer. I’ve always loved his curls, and every time I do take him to get it cut I always tell them to leave it a little longer on top (and rarely get what I want, but oh well). Even though I joke about his “covid hair” I’ve made it clear to everyone that I think it’s super cute, and I’m in no rush to get his hair cut. If I was, I’d just cut it myself! But I still keep getting comments like “I’m just gonna bring my clippers and cut it” or “my neighbor cuts hair and could do it.” The other day the babysitter tells me she was putting barrettes in the girls’ hair and my son said “me next!” She tells me “I told him no mommy wouldn’t like that.” That really pissed me off, and I just said “why not? I don’t care, I do it home if he asks.” She just dropped it, but it really felt like she was trying to shame me. And my son for that matter.
