More is expected of women than ever before

I feel women face more pressures and in a way sexism than ever before.

Perhaps this is just my personal experience- but I feel enormous pressure from my peers and family that you can’t just be a mother, you have to do it ALL.

“You need to hurry up and get on the career ladder”

“Your kids won’t always need you, what will you do then”

“You can’t waste your opportunities and life away”

“When are you going to achieve something”

People expect women to work like they don’t have children and be a mother like they don’t work.

Right now I’m just at home with my child with another on the way. And I can’t help but feel like I’m looked down upon or people think I’m some sort of bum because I don’t work.

But say back 50 years ago I would be perfectly fulfilling my “role” as a woman, but today I feel hugely inadequate because I don’t have a career right this second.

People don’t realise raising children and keeping a home IS a job, and one that I’m personally never given credit for.

Does anyone or has anyone ever dealt with something similar? I’m lucky to be in a position where I can be with my kids all the time but every day in the back of my mind is this huge pressure of when am I going to actually achieve something, I need to get a career instead of enjoying the privilege of being with my children.
