Cervical Exam?

Is it even in the slightest possible that cervical exams CAN help you dilate? I was checked Monday and she said I was 1cm dilated and 70% effaced, I’ve felt Braxton Hicks before that exam, but Tuesday I’ve been feeling them a tiny bit more intense and frequent. Any possibility that I dilated/effaced any more from yesterday? (Ftm so I don’t really know much) ❤️

Cervical exam probably won't make dialation faster. But if they swept the membrane, that does.

Yes, it absolutely can! My doctor will not check earlier then 37 weeks because of this. Any time you check the cervix it can increase dilation but you can be dilated for weeks with no labor. 😊

I’m not sure how accurate it is that it helps dilation but maybe it’s coincidence that with my first pregnancy I had one cervical check at 38 weeks and was 1cm, then had another exam at 39 weeks and was still 1cm but ended up going into labor the next day 🤷🏼‍♀️

I never thought about this and never asked but on Wednesday I had a cervical check and was 1-2. On that Friday, I was in triage and was a 4. I was 36 weeks at the time (I'm now 37 weeks). But I didn't know how I progressed so fast (I'm still a 4 as of today).

My OB wouldn’t check me before 36 weeks (being induced today at 37w1d) so as not to aggravate the cervix so although probably not common it could be possible. On a side note they didn’t check me at my appointment Friday because my NST was non reactive and they sent me to L&D to be monitored so that got overlooked.

BH won’t aid in dilating and all that and Idk about if an exam would or not (I’m assuming no) but you can dilate since then within hours or stay that way for weeks without progressing
