Question

I have 2 day 3 embryos on ice since 2017.  Two different clinics gave two different advices 
One says grow the day 3 embryos to blasts and do PGS 
One says transfer as they are , they might not be able to survive in the lab if we grow them and do test , they are not fresh embryos.
I vote for the latter one .  Just curious to know if any of you have successful story regarding to regrow day 3 embryo to blasts after they were frozen for so many years? What is your thoughts?

Thanks everyone. My guts telling me transfer as it is .  Too risky to go with the first option.  Thanks everyone for your thoughts.   You know it’s hard to think logically while you are in such emotional journey.  But we are doing so to balance off btw options and do pro/cons and costs / benefit analysis.  Haha .  I am in finance field .  This is much tougher than any finance problem at work I need to solve. Haha

I would just transfer. Too risky, IMO, to thaw, grow to blasts, biopsy, refreeze, and then have to thaw again in order to transfer.

Well I definitely would go withe the second option. 1. Because like everyone has stated its too risky to lose them... & 2. Because in my personal opinion it is not worth PGS testing only 2 embryos for the price of PGS. I honestly would only consider PGS either after I’ve had multiple losses (God forbid) or after 30 & definitely only if I had at least 5 or more to test... but thats just my feelings🤷🏻‍♀️ wishing you the very best of luck with whatever you decide 🍀❤️❤️

I don’t think thawing and testing makes much sense at this point. But I’m not a doctor so 🤷🏼‍♀️

If I had only had two embryos by day 3, my doctor’s rec was to freeze at day 3 (knowing I needed mock cycle with receptiva and era regardless), and then transferring both without more growing or testing, as only two wasn’t worth the risk of turning into none.  (Plan A worked though- by day 3 I still had six growing, and the ones that made it to blast from there got PGS tested.)  So based on my plan (I asked so many “what if” questions in advance lol), I would put the two in as is, but do what your gut says.

I would transfer them! I had a somewhat similar situation in that I had 2 frozen, perfect 3-day embryos from a 2018 retrieval.  I also had a 5-day frozen blast with less-than-perfect quality (I’ll spare you the long story about why they froze 2 perfect embryos at 3-days and let 2 others go to 5-day; one of those 5-days was transferred back in 2018 and is now a 16-month old).  
Going into my FET in March my RE actually recommended thawing one of the perfect 3-days and letting it grow in the lab until day 5 and transferring it then.  (In the event that it didn’t survive the thaw they would thaw the 5-day and transfer that.) I’m 22 weeks pregnant with that 3-day-turned-5-day embryo.  
Obviously I wouldn’t recommend you let yours grow in the lab, but I did ask my RE whether or not she thought the transfer would have been successful if we had just done it on day 3 and she said she is certain it would have since it did well in the lab.   So I wouldn’t risk the growth and testing process when you could have a successful transfer with the 3-day embryos!

I think back in2017 PGS is not as commonly recommended.  My first round of IVF back then only got two embryos so they don’t want to risk them so got them frozen at day 3 .
