Given the option would you induce? First time momma question 😊

I know my OB is known for wanting to induce early. Would you do it or not if it wasn’t medically necessary? This is my first baby. I’ve had preterm signs already. My MIL says no, but hasn’t explained why it’s necessarily a bad thing. What do you girls think? Thank you!

My thought process is if it’s not medically necessary, why? Other than being eager for baby to come out..I’d want baby to cook as long as possible...I’ve also heard contractions that are induced by pitocin etc are worse...I aslo wouldn’t want to go through balloons being put in my cervix (or whatever else an induction entails) I feel like you have a higher possibility of having a quicker labor naturally cause your body is actually ready, versus drugs trying to make you go into labor. But to each their own.

I was medically induced with my first and I am desperate to go naturally this time. I had a horrible time. I was 2 cm dilated from 33 weeks until induction at 38 weeks and still took 36 hours with 2 hours of pushing. The OB when I checked in couldn’t get to my cervix to place the foley bulb after trying for an excruciating hour but, they had already started pitocin so I contracted with no progress for 12 hours until my OB showed up and placed the bulb with ease. I liked the convenience of knowing the day to expect because I’m an obsessive planner but, the whole experience was just awful.

I was induced at 39+5 with my first but I was ready. I was 4cm and 100% effaced for weeks. When I got to the dr that morning I was 6cm (still not in labor. After my dr broke my water I got 1 hit of P and had my baby w/ in 3 hrs. There is a test/scale to see how “ready” your body is for baby and it helps to determine if you are likely to have a successful induction. (Sorry I cant remember what it’s called). But if you induce and you are not ready you could end up with a c-section and that’s no fun at all. Good luck!!!

Personally I say no! Especially since it’s your 1st I’d definitely try & see what your body will do on its own! 💙

Most of the time I’ve heard it makes labor much harder on the body. I went into labor naturally and it was hard enough 😳😳😳

No, I’m a FTM as well and did a lot of research for birthing plans. One of the things I read about being induced is that it increases your chances of tearing during delivery because your body has not released all of the necessary relaxins needed as would with naturally occurring labor. Inducing is forcing your body to do something it is not ready for, so that would be a no-go for me.

Not unless it was medically necessary. I was induced with my first two and will be induced with this baby as well at 37 weeks due to high bp and gestational diabetes. 
If I had a choice I wouldn’t induce.
(Both of my inductions went fine and were successful, but I would of rather gone into labor naturally)

Sometimes it's just harder on the body and labor can be a bit more difficult if you weren't ready.  I have big babies so I would love to go a couple of weeks early but I had pitocin with my first because I wasn't progressing and it did NOTHING to dilate and my contractions became so much more intense. Don't get me wrong, if I end up with a medical reason to be induced then it is what it is. In the end I'd go through c section and throw in a kidney while I'm at it if it's what me and the baby need

I continuously told my dr I was going to be induced with my first. They wrote it off every time saying I’d go naturally, that being induced is harder and takes longer, blah blah blah. They HAD to induce me cause I was over 42 weeks and leaking protein(pre eclampsia). Mind you we were in the middle of an extreme heat advisory in the south. My labor from the start of pitocin till DS was born was less than 10 hours and super easy. My new doctor will induce early at 38 weeks if I want to, for any reason, He also refuses to let his patients go past 41 weeks 😩🙌🏼
