Fast Breathing Newborn

Marenda

My 1 week old’s respiration is usually in the 70s. Sometimes 80s even. I know that’s higher than the usual 40-60 respirations per minute newborns should have. So we’ve taken him to the ER and they admitted him to the children’s hospital for overnight observation and tests. EKG, chest X-ray, infection tests, acidosis test, O2 content all normal. Never a fever or any other symptoms. No flares nostrils, no chest compressions while breathing, no blueish coloring. Doesn’t seem to be in distress, eats normally, laughs in his sleep and still has plenty of poops and pees. He just breathes fast.

Has anyone else experienced this? I’m trying to just be calm about it, watch him closely and stay on top of anything new. But what else can I do if we’ve already taken him to the doctor and they say he’s fine?
