Can you get pregnant if you are strictly breastfeeding, and didn’t get your period back yet?

Not sure if anyone will know the answer to this question, but I was just wondering if it’s possible to get pregnant while still strictly breastfeeding and without getting the period back yet? My baby is 16 months old and I still didn’t get my period back I’m guessing because I’m still breastfeeding. We want to try for baby #2, but not sure if I have to stop breastfeeding to make it happen. I wanted to breastfeed my LO until she was 2 years old, but I was told I had to stop breastfeeding to get pregnant again. If anyone can shed some light on this for me that would be awesome thanks.

You definitely don’t have to stop breastfeeding to get pregnant. It does protect a bit but my doctor told us to just have sex every other day because it’s hard to know when you ovulate. I had my period back already and I tested positive on an ovulation strip and we got pregnant right away. We conceived slightly earlier than we planned to because we didn’t know how long it may take because of the nursing. I’m not sure about getting pregnant without your period back, but I think you can technically ovulate before that happens. My advice is to talk to your doctor, test for ovulation if you want to, but have sex every day/every other day. Good luck!

So I am in the same boat. According to my doctor most people who  breast feed will get their period back by 18 months. She said occasionally like 5% of the time some mamas will only start their cycle after completely stopping breast feeding. Her recommendations to me were to cut back on feedings and try and nurse in the morning and at night. “Which is proving difficult, my daughter loves her milk”  She also told me it can take a couple months after you begin cycling again to actually ovulate. The best thing for you to do is to start using ovulation strips to see if you are ovulating. Good luck Mama. I am still breastfeeding (via pumping every every 2 hours during my waking hours) I was exclusively breastfeeding (baby to breast and power pumping to build a stash) round the clock at 6 weeks postpartum and ovulated and got my period back at 8 weeks postpartum. Regular normal monthly periods since then. Breastfeeding had absolutely no effect on my fertility. You ovulate before getting your period back so if you are tracking your cervical fluid, you should be able to tell when your fertility is high. I know other mamas who have been able to tell when they are ovulating and get pregnant with no official period. So simple answers, yes you can get pregnant while breastfeeding. :)

Yes you can. Im currently 34 weeks so im going to have 2 under 2. I was breastfeeding and I never got my period.
