Check out this mamacita!
Super easy pregnancy led to a painful and eventful birth. Baby girl was wayyyy too comfortable in the womb and didn’t want to make her big entrance 😬.
Water broke naturally at home on 07/26/2020 at 12:45am. I was admitted to the hospital at 2cm/25% effaced and immediately started on pitocin (it took 4 nurses 5 total attempts to set my IV, which I think really set the tone for the night, haha).
Contractions started and were not spaced out at all, so I was basically having a contraction every 1.5 - 2 minutes. We started Fentanyl to help with the pain, but I honestly thought it only heightened the pain of each contraction. After 3 hours of pitocin, Fentanyl, and non-stop contractions, I was still only 2 cm/60%, so I asked for an epidural.
With the epidural, I was able to relax a bit and within hours went to 8cm/100%. Baby’s heart rate started dropping, so I was constantly having to change positions to keep her happy, which was a touch difficult with the epidural 🥵.
Eventually made it to 10cm/100% and was told to start pushing. Baby was super low, so everyone was confident she would come out soon. Haha, nope! After 3 hours of pushing, baby’s heart rate started dropping again and the doctor and nurses got really serious, rapidly started setting up a bunch of tools, and called a bunch of backup to our room. The OB tried to attach the vacuum to baby’s head, but she had so much hair the vacuum kept popping off 😱. I had 3 nurses, 2 residents, 3 NICU nurses, my OB, and my husband all standing around me, telling me in super serious tones that I needed to PUSH!
Baby finally popped out and was rested on my chest for less than a minute while the cord was cute before being rushed to the warmer by the NICU nurses. She ended up being completely fine, but I was a nervous wreck for about 15 minutes before she was returned to me.
This baby girl was so worth it though! 6 lbs, 13 oz, 21 inches, born 07/27/2020 @ 12:10am.
