Are registries for a house warming party trashy?

Fiancé and I bought our first home and want to have a party! We are already being asked what we want/people saying they’re buying something for us. I feel like I might as well have a registry available so we don’t get a bunch of stuff we don’t need?

I think it’s 💯 fine if you only send it to people who ask, but not if it’s included on the invite. You bought the place, you shouldn’t expect people to furnish it. I had a housewarming and received a few plants, 100% did not expect gifts.

I think it’s smart to make one, everyone has a different style & I would want to get someone something they actually like & want... but I agree with others only tell people who ask what you need or want to get you something! 
We made a registry for our daughters first birthday 😬 it was easier than telling everyone what I should get her, I just sent the link to them. Everyone appreciated how easy it was to pick out a gift for her!

I can’t imagine being expected to purchase something for a housewarming. It seems a little outdated in my opinion. If it were me and someone asked, I would just say “we have everything we need thank you! If you’d like to bring a bottle of wine to share, that would be lovely.”

We had a registry when we bought the house and had a housewarming, but when we got a married a few years later didn't have a registry or a shower since we already had everything we needed.

When we had a housewarming party, we did a registry. It’s just a lot easier than having to tell people constantly what you want, I would just send them the link and it would help them choose what to get or what kind of stuff we’d like.
