Baby Multivitamin? EDIT

Question

My 7 month old’s pediatrician said to start her on a baby multivitamin with iron while she’s over 6 months but not yet getting a lot of solid foods?  I can’t find much, none in stores and only a couple on Amazon (I’d rather not order something like that online).  What are you all doing for this?  (I know I can call but it’s hard to get through.)
EDIT: Baby is EBF, taking vitamin D, and not anemic as far as we know (though Momma is).  Doc didn’t say anything about anemia.

What?! I’ve never heard this. Baby should be getting everything they need from formula or breastmilk plus a vitamin D supplement. Food before one is just for fun. Maybe get a second opinion about this. I would if it were me 🤷🏼‍♀️

My girl is formula fed they had her on vitamin d from the getgo until she takes 32 oz of formula a day.  Then at 3 months they put her on a multi with iron.  Now at 6 months they switched to a multi with flouride. Always prescribed and picked up at the pharmacy.  I also have a 13 year old and a 6 year old.  They never did this with my older 2 but said it's common practice now 🤷‍♀️

My son’s doctor prescribed a multivitamin with fluoride at his 6m appointment. We picked it up from the pharmacy and my husband and I tasted a drop. It was so gross I couldn’t bare to give it to him.

They typically only say to give iron if baby is anemic... did they say anything about that? My coworker had to give her daughter iron as a 3yr old and even at that age it’s a nasty liquid. She couldn’t hide it in anything. I’d call and clarify. My daughter is EBF and we do Vit D and probiotics

This is my second baby and I never heard of that this early on. Then again my kids are formula fed so I don’t know maybe that’s something breastfed babies need. I do give my son vitamins now but he’s 3 lol. Maybe call the doctor and ask for a suggestion on a brand?

We only take probiotics... however my hematologist wanted her on a b vitamin and since they don’t have any for such a young age I’m basically taking 3x the dose so it get to her through my breastmilk.

I definitely think a multivitamin is a bit much at this age. Vitamin d supplementation is important and iron stores start to deplete in breastfed babies after 6 months, but there are plenty of ways to boost iron with foods. Always offer iron rich foods with a source of vitamin c (even a squeeze of orange) which helps the iron absorb better. Most baby cereals are enriched with iron as well. A quick blood test for iron deficiency is usually done at the 9mo appt so if there was an issue then I like to use Wellements and they have a iron supplement.

Does this have something to do with the baby being breastfed or formula fed? This wasn't mentioned at my son's appointment. He's breastfed and takes vitamin D.
