Anyone get a false positive on NIPT results?

Lindsey

So I had the progenity NIPT test done at 10 weeks to be able to tell us the gender and if there are any chromosomal abnormalities with our mono/di twins but the results came back inconclusive saying there wasn’t enough of the babies DNA in my blood yet to be able to tell.

I retested at almost 14 weeks and just for the results back last week as abnormal. Results showed an increased likelihood for Trisomy 13. I was in utter disbelief when I got the call that I could barely speak or move. All I could do was cry.

That was 3 days ago.

I go to meet with a genetic counselor and high risk specialist in 2 days to do more testing so we can know for sure. My husband and I have been doing a lot of reading though since finding out and apparently the NIPT tests aren’t suggested for twin pregnancies as they can cause false positives and return funky results.

Any other moms experience this and then everything was perfectly fine? I’m trying really hard to focus on the likelihood that the results are false positive!

Any stories (good or bad) would help tremendously!!
