Secondhand Crib?

My SIL mentioned if we’d like to purchase one of their crib sets from my nieces they’d sell to us. 
I know the cribs were always well taken care of, but I’ve read to avoid used cribs. Would you take it? 
She also mentioned she has two crib mattresses we could use.

Cribs, yes. Mattress no. I did a lot of research on mattresses. It’s scary lol.

Depending on how old her kids are would depend on if I would take it. If it’s only been like 2-4 years that’s not too bad. It may just be me but I wouldn’t use a used crib mattress, if she used them with her kids

I’d look up the crib and see if there’s anything that was recalled since they’ve been purchased. Should be a date on a sticker somewhere on the crib and the brand name and mode you can look it up. As long as nothing about that crib has been recalled (unless it’s fixable) then it’s safe to use especially since it’s from family. Just buy a new mattress.

What’s wrong with a second hand crib? Unless it’s super old and has a drop down side I think it’s totally okay? I wouldn’t use second hand mattresses though

Before you buy your SIL crib make sure it isn’t recalled. Check the Consumer Product Safety Commission's crib recall list. You can search by the brand of your crib or for all cribs by date of recall. The site has contact information for reaching the manufacturer for further instructions. If everything is fine, then I would purchase. Also I would buy a new mattress.
