Cradle?

So we got this as a gift from a good friend of mine. It's cute for sure but I'm generally concerned about it's practicality and overall safeness... Any thoughts?

Biggest concern in a cradle would be toxic paint, mattress fitting properly, cradle secure as to baby not tipping out.
Yours is stained so no worries about paint, make sure when you buy a mattress it fits it without gaps, and that baby can't tip out.
My husband and I are very firm about certain things new. Such as a car seat, mattress, crib, bassinet. These to us were worth our peace of mind. This was our opinion. We ran into some hurt feelings from family about this but those had to be new and we were willing to buy them ourselves.
My Mother in Law, used a crib that was gifted to her by a friend. Her friend did foster care and one of her foster babies and passed away from sudden infant death syndrome in that crib. That was the crib my husband slept in as an infant. We were horrified and it really scared us about used items. Even if nothing were to happen we wouldn't want to risk it. My husband was upset that his mom couldn't respect us when we said no multiple times to her trying to have a used crib at her home for our child or a used carseat. These are just a big deal to us.

Safety is probably fine, practicality can be argued. You can get a crib to use as a bassinet that can convert to toddler beds and sometimes even a twin, which seems super practical. But it is up to you how much furniture you want. Baby wont last a long time in it but maybe it is worth it because it is small and easy to reach.

I think it’s so cute even if you wanted to use it for like stuffed animals, pillows, blankets, etc. rather than the baby sleeping in it.
