Boyfriend lying about sleeping with my friends and them talking about me

Lately my boyfriend has been lying about the weirdest things. I think it’s a control thing but I’m really not sure at this point. I feel fucking confused. But we had a couple arguments recently and he’ll claim he’s slept with my friend or talked to a friend of mine and he’ll say “she called you a slut” or “she thinks you’re dumb” but in reality he never actually talked to that person. He’ll even go as far as to say he saw a girls name in my messenger that he talks to and he didn’t know I knew.

It’s at a point I feel dumb and a little crazy. I’ve gotten mad and taken space away thinking be cheated with my friends. I’ve actually looked up the names he’s told me. And for the people I actually have on my account I’ve checked to see if they even have him and some do so I messaged them and they all said pretty much the same thing, that they either haven’t talked to him in years or haven’t talked to him at all. After I did all this I told him everything I found out and he told me he was just lying... who the hell lies about sleeping with someone’s friends? And for what? I literally went for a few weeks thinking otherwise and that my friends were lying to me until he tells me he was lying the whole time..... 🤯🤯🤯
