When to start buying diapers?

First time mom, when did you start buying diapers and wipes? I’m due Jan 8th and my husband and I want to get a small stock pile going of diapers and wipes but concerned about sizing and returns.

I've been buying wipes, so far I've gotten a small pack of newborn & a big box of size 1 diapers. Don't wanna buy too many because you never know how long they will be in one size

2nd time mom here. I'm stocked up on wipes but waiting til birth for diapers. I stocked up with my first. Like really stocked up. She ended up being allergic to half the brands I had. I'd start a diaper fund. Put the money back that you would spend on them that way you have the money after baby comes. Most of mine couldn't be returned and I had to trade and re-home them. Never know if baby will have an allergy to them

I started stocking up early. I regretted it though because my daughter ended up being allergic or super sensitive and needed hypoallergenic everything. So it took me a while to sell my supply and repurchase new stuff 🤦🏻‍♀️

If you do stock up on diaper keep the receipt! Usually places easily let you return one size to get another size! I got diapers for my baby shower and just taped the gift receipts to the box!

Target has an exchange program for unopened boxes to get the size you need. I believe Pinterest has some different charts with rough numbers of each size to stock up on. Start now if you aren’t expecting a diaper party, especially if there’s coupons or a sale.

Never. My husbands friends threw him a Diaper and beer party and we got so many from my shower as well that our son was 1.5 before we ever had to buy diapers. We still had wipes left when we had our daughter 4 years later 😂😂 But we didn’t buy diapers or wipes till the month before our second was born. We will probably wait till around that time for this baby too.

If you are having a baby shower, or a diaper party, or both, then definitely wait until after that. With my first I got a ton of diapers from my shower, plus gift cards that I used to purchase diapers for a long time. I don’t think we bought diapers with our own money for like 6 months. Same with wipes. If you do decide to stock up, or you’re not having a shower, then take it easy on the small sizes - 1-2 packs of newborn at most(the small packs, don’t buy a box), 1 box of size 1. I found my son was in size 3 the longest of any sizes.
