The situation with my boss just got worse.

Update: my boss blew up my phone multiple times last night between 1:30-2:15am. When I finally woke up and answered she was obviously drunk or high or something and was begging me not to go to the director, but between her slurred speech and my grogginess I only understood about 30% of what she was saying. I told her “____ it’s 2 in the fucking morning this is unprofessional whatever it is we’ll talk about it in the morning” and hung up on her. When I I met with my director and HR at 8:30 this morning I stuck strictly to the time approval issues I was having, also reported the extremely inappropriate call last night, but said nothing about the other issues. My director then starts asking very specific yes or no questions- “do you feel ____ is putting effort into her work” (no) “did you write this review summary that she took credit for on Monday” (yes). Then she says “I’ve had a feeling this was happening, why haven’t you come to me before this?” I was prepared, I said that because we have just been assigned to her and I didn’t know her very well and she didn’t know me or my manager i didn’t feel it would be professional and was afraid it would come across as petty. As a supervisor (of no one since my team was furloughed), I know it is my superior’s prerogative to delegate tasks and so on. We left the call with them saying they would do some investigation and speak with my boss, in the meantime my director will take a more direct role in supervision of me. I didn’t hear anything the rest of the day until my director IM’d me and asked me to send the weekly summary of the reports for our client call tomorrow. I’m assuming my boss was either fired or was too distraught to work. I’m sure I would have been notified if she was fired though. We’ll see what happens! It’s probably going to be tense for a while.

A couple of weeks ago I posted about ongoing issues I was having with my boss (asking me to do her work, not responding to requests for information/questions, being generally MIA, general incompetence on subject matter we work in, asking me questions and copy/pasting my answers in separate emails without giving me credit, time theft, attending client meetings while at a public pool, asking me to approve my own time sheet and when I wouldn’t lied to her boss about connectivity issues to have her boss do it). I was considering reporting her to her boss, and got a couple of responses advising on the wisdom of this.

In the end I decided to call the company ethics hotline anonymously and address the rest of the issues directly with her. It was awkward, but I thought the conversation went well, I framed it as “I’m concerned about you because you’re just not doing what you need to be doing and not supporting me, you can’t be away from your system during meetings, you need to make sure I get paid etc.” She cried and said she’s going through some personal stuff (she’s been going through personal stuff since October and I already knew about it) and she was better for a couple of days. Then last week she was out of the office all week and I was formally doing both jobs, working directly with my director (my boss’s boss) instead of the usual (director asks manager a question, manager asks me the question and copy/pastes my answer or asks me to address it myself). The week went really well and I got a lot done, I’m hoping that speaks for itself.

Today sh*t hit the fan. I’m supposed to get paid this week and manager is supposed to approve my paycheck by 10am on Mondays so that I get paid Friday. This morning I went in to check my PTO accruals and noticed that my time card was never approved by my manager and has been flagged by the system. She was back in the office on Monday morning (supposedly) and should have approved it. I IM’d her and called her, no response. I emailed her and HR and HR replied that once she approves it they could put a rush on it, it will probably just be delayed a few hours (usually hits my bank account 12:01am). I then call my boss again and this time she answers and says “oh my gosh I’m so sorry I was driving back from Tennessee on Monday morning and completely forgot to email director.” I kind of went off, told her this is unacceptable and she starts crying again; I tell her she needs to log in and get my time approved ASAP but alas...she says she spent the night at a “friend’s” house and doesn’t have her computer with her (it’s about 10:30am and she is not scheduled off today)...she starts crying harder and I hang up. Screw decorum and respect. I sent an email to HR and our director asking her to approve my paycheck and detail what my manager said, and that this is the second paycheck that has been “compromised,” and ask to file a formal complaint. My director replies within 5 minutes stating she approved my paycheck and that she can’t meet today but she wants to talk to me, HR rep sent me the complaint paperwork, and I now have a meeting scheduled with both HR and my director tomorrow at 8:30am. Didn’t hear from my manager for the rest of the day.

Any advice on how to handle this call? What do I say? Any of you with HR/management experience, would something like this likely result in termination? Or am I now going to have to deal with my boss on a PIP or being coached on top of everything else she does (or doesn’t do)?
