Puppy?

Is getting a puppy with a 1 year old to much? I need thoughts opinions...I’m so torn. Will it be to much to hard?

Take it from someone who got a puppy not even knowing what is was going to be. Did you sign up for twins? Because getting a puppy with a baby means you now have two babies. I highly suggest waiting or getting an older dog that isn’t going to need as much hands on care.

My fully trained, sweet old man dog can be a lot on top of my 1 year old. I wouldn’t consider getting a puppy that needs so much right now 🤷🏼‍♀️

Depends how much energy and patience you have. It definitely won’t be easy. It warms my heart to see my 11 month old play with our dogs, but they’re not puppies. And it’s still not easy. 
Personally, I’d wait. But I’m lazy 😅

It totally depends on you and how much time you are able to put in to it. Both babies and puppies are a lot of work. We got a puppy with a 6 month old baby, and potty training a 3 year old. It’s totally doable. Is it hard, yes. But for me, it is worth it. But please don’t get a puppy and then realize you can’t do it and revoke the puppy. That’s not fair to the dog. So before you get a puppy, make sure it’s something you 100% want and can commit to!

Oh gosh, please don't lol. I did and it went terribly 😭😂 my son was 8 months old and I got an 8 week old puppy thinking it was a great idea for them to grow up together....no. I was also a stay at home mom at the time, so I was the only omw taking care of both baby and puppy. Not to mention, I also put the dog in training and this dog did not listen, did not care, chewed up a bunch of my sons stuff when I walked outside to get the mail, ate part of my wall, my carpet, my sons high chair, ate my blinds, it was awful. I do not take getting rid of pets lightly whatsoever, but it did not work out. I kept him until he was 7 months old and kept him until someone I knew could take him. My nextdoor neighbors took him in, so I still get to see him everday!

Yes puppies are a lot of work. If you have the patience to work with the puppy, I say go for it.  They need a lot of attention too.

I have an 8 year old retired military dog who is perfectly trained and is probably the most obedient dog on the planet and even he can be a lot with my four year old. Don’t do it unless you can dedicate real time to training.

Thanks everyone for your honest opinions. I went ahead and decided not to get one. Although I would love one, my little guy just began walking and I can’t imagine having to constantly be worrying about a puppies pee or poop and him getting ahold of it. I appreciate everyone who responded!!!

I would wait until I had a potty trained kid at least. It would be even better to wait until you had a kid that was able to really pitch in with taking care of a dog (7 or older). I wouldn’t add a puppy on top of a toddler. 
When our daughter was born, our dog was 2, well-behaved, house-trained, etc., and it was still a lot to have a dog and a baby at the same time. Now our daughter is 2 and things are calmer, but it still gets loud and crazy sometimes.
