gunk in newborns eye??

Ftm here! This morning my baby had gunk in his eye and I cleaned it up but I just woke him up from his nap and there’s even more gunk. Looks yellowish. It’s just the one eye to. Anyone know what this could be?

Probably eye infection
I would clean my babies gunk with a warm wet cloth just dab it off dont rub and do not use the same cloth on the other eye because it can pass the infection to the other side... it should go away in a few days but you can always phone your doc for advise on if he needs some kind of drops

It’s a clogged tear duct. We were told to do a “J” massage on the inside corners of the eyes with either our pointer or pinky finger.

My 2.5 month old has had a goopy eye since the day she was born, poor girl! The doctor says it’s a clogged tear duct and there’s nothing to be done except wipe it off until it either goes away or she gets to be 9 months old.

This happened to my daughter when she was a newborn. I just used a warm cloth to wipe it away and used a clean cloth each time. It will go away don’t worry 😊

My girl had a “goopy” eye when she was born. Doctor said it was normal and to just wipe with a wet cloth. Just make sure if you need to wipe a couple times to get it clean, to make sure you use a different part of the cloth each time. It lasted a few weeks. Hard to tell by the photo if it’s an infection like others are saying, but it doesn’t hurt to ask your doctor.

Sounds like an eye infection. Some call them from sinuses or colds. Use a warm wet cloth and clean it. Always use a clean cloth never reuse the same one. If it gets worse or persists than you will need to call the doctor. Also keep an eye on temp just to make sure.  Hope this helps.
