Which car seat???

Question

I am having such a hard time deciding between the infant car seat and one of the convertible car seats. I like the idea of being able to just carry the infant car seat easily with baby in it, but the convertible car seats seem so convenient since they claim to last all the way through your child being in a booster seat. What did some of you guys choose and why?
Update: Wow! Thanks for the advice everyone! I appreciate it SO much! A couple of family members almost had me talked in to the convertible. I live in Michigan’s Upper Penninsula and it gets super cold (like -10 to -20 F wind chill through most of February) in the winter. That was the main reason I was still questioning which seat to go with. You guys are great!

Travel system with infant carrier than convertible car seat... much more practical.

I chose the Chicco Bravo travel system with KeyFit 30 car seat because it had pretty good ratings and  I think, like you say, it will be convenient to take the whole seat out of the car (and use with the stroller), especially in winter when baby is all snuggled up in there with blankets etc. But it’s my first baby so I have no actual experience aside from dealing with my 7 little nieces and nephews from time to time.

Travel system. Then get the convertible later! Trust me you will want them to stay asleep when you put them in or out of the car lol and having to unbuckle them each time is bbaaadddd

I did convertible with my last & ￼just wore her in a baby wrap everywhere which was okay but very tiring as she got heavier. I decided to go with a infant seat with my third because it’s the winter months and I don’t want to take him in and out of his car seat while out and about in the cold, we live in MO and it gets super cold & snowy.

I love our uppababy messa. My son stayed in it until over a year old and still could have stayed in longer. Our convertible car seat is a Nuna which I like, but I LOVE the uppababy messa

I started with the chicco travel system and the switched to the graco convertible car seat.

We our doing an infant seat carrier only because he is being born in the winter and can keep him warmer. If he was being born in spring or summer I would def doing the convertible. We have my 16 month old in the grace 4ever dlx and love it. For this new baby we got the graco snugride snuglock 35 lx. It feels super comfortable and rates really well.

We are doing both. We bought a convertible as well as a travel system of the stroller we wanted so we’d have an infant seat for the first few months (especially since we’re due in the middle of winter & lots of rain here) as well as if we need to travel with a friend or something in the first year. And we’re planning on getting my husband a new truck with a back seat so that would be in his truck until he’s too big for it and then we’ll purchase a second convertible seat for my husbands truck. 
It’s beneficial to have the infant seat for a while in terms of carrying but we wanted a seat to last a while so we decided a convertible seat was best for us and then we realized a carrier would also be beneficial and since we were getting a stroller anyways we spent a little more to get a seat as well. 
If you’re looking at a convertible I recommend doing extra research for which ones are best for your car and in your country as some seats have different requirements as far as recline modes which can sometimes take up a ton of space if you have to. Graco has a sale page on their website and it had some good options on sale and the NUNA brand is going to be in the Nordstrom sale on the 19th. 
There’s a page on Facebook “car seats for the littles” that once you have a seat you can post and a CPST can check the install in the car as well as fit of harness and such on baby once they’re here. They also have resources to help pick one out as well if needed. 
If you choose an infant seat you’ll likely still want to purchase a 3 in 1 seat at some point when baby out grows the infant seat so if you plan on using infant until they out grow, wait until you need the next seat up before purchasing as it’ll extend the life of the convertible as far as expiration date 🙂
