Are seat covers for babies bad?

I’m finding a lot of different information/opinions on car seat covers for babies. I get that it makes it hard to breathe for them if used for a long amount of time but my bank will be born in February and I live in Minnesota and our winters are AWFUL here. I also know you’re not supposed to have baby in coats or jackets while they’re in the car seat and I’m worried how difficult it will be to keep baby warm in his first couple months 😭. What do you guys know about baby car seat covers? Are there any that are ok to use? I would only use it to transport my baby to and from my car during the winter.

Wisconsin here and we definitely use one but only the kind that elastic on top of the seat and not under or around baby so there’s no impact on the straps for how baby fits. We also make sure to keep the face part open unless actually outside. So once we get in the car, we flip that open and sometimes unzip it a little if the car is warm.

I'll but using a pram bodysuit for my newborn that'll be born in November and I always cover my babies carseat even in summer due to germs💜

I live in NY my son was born in early January 2019 so we used a car seat similar to the one in the picture. Two separate nurses said it was completely safe as long as that front part was rolled down

I never used a seat cover but I did wrap a blanket around baby (after already strapped in) and then I would use a another blanket and cover the car seat. So I would pull the canopy out and stuff the blanket over the canopy but under the handle and draped it over the front and side. It's enough to get to and from the car to inside. I don't trust the covers because they can be dangerous and get too hot for baby

In Norway they don't even sell car seat covers because they are seen as dangerous, and Norway Is basically just a huge mountain with some fjords with cold weather and snow. It's also warned against covering the bassinet/stroller during the summer or when it's sunny. 
A cover regardless of how breathable they are trap co2, restrict airflow, and trap heat.

Technically I don't think they're considered safe but you definitely can't use a snowsuit in the carseat so I'm going to use this style. I live in WI and I have to cover baby somehow. This one is lighter weight so it's more breathable and it doesn't go near baby's face like some other ones I see. I'll pull it down when we get to where we're going but to block some of the wind and cool air outside i think it's necessary and easier than a blanket.

I’m not too sure about the car seat covers, although I have used one since I live in Canada and have very cold winters as well but it’s not like I had it zipped the whole time the baby was in the car seat.. Just to and from the car. And as far as jackets or snow suits look for ones that are considered car seat safe. I really liked the north face thermoball bunting it’s light weight yet warm and doesn’t interfere with bucking the baby in the car seat properly or the north face campshire bunting is like a Sherpa material also warm but fitted to the baby. Also the north face Perrito jacket is another good one. And if your not looking to spend too much as I know north face can be pricier I found that gap seemed to have very similar style buntings and jackets.

We used one called the jj cole bundle me (I think). We loved it. It didn’t go into the actual seat so it was safe, it was warm, and we could unzip it.
