Anyone cloth diapering ?

I purchased some cloth diapers while pregnant and I’m intimidated by them so I’m scared to use them 😂

Yep. I've been cloth diapering since my first baby was born in 2016. He was allergic to disposables. He is potty trained now, but my newborn and my almost 2 year old are both in cloth diapers. I don't think either of them are allergic to disposables, but I've no desire to use anything but cloth. They're still the same diapers I bought for my first 3.5 years ago. I've only spent $200 total on diapers between my three kids, which has been great. Ha, idk if I could have afforded three kids right in a row if it weren't for cloth diapering and breastfeeding!

For washing them, you need to do two washes with detergent in both wash. First should be more of a prewash and has less detergent. Second has the appropriate amount of detergent. You’ll want to test your water hardness to make sure that you’re using the appropriate detergent or if you need to add softeners. I have really soft water, so I use Persil. Harder water may require additional softeners like borax or calagon. Using a safe detergent is important or you could get buildup or not get them properly cleaned and stuff like that or it could cause problems with absorbency.

Yep! We have been using cloth during the day and disposable at night. We also use cloth wipes.  Absolutely love it! No more diaper rash for my boy since we started. He didn’t fit even the newborn size diapers till he was 2 weeks (now almost 5 weeks) so we did use disposable until then. 
Washing can be inconvenient, but it’s not that bad. I have to do laundry anyway. 😆

I will be moving to our cloth diapers once we use up the Size 1 disposables we have. By then, she should be fitting into them. I bought the stash with my last baby and loved it. I'm happy to finally be using them again.

I use them for both my 2 year old and my 5 week old. Currently using folded muslins and terry cloths under PUL wraps for my 5 week old, they're crazy absorbent I'm honestly tempted to just get bigger wraps and keep using them instead of moving her into the one size ones my son has 😂. If you're looking for advice "The Nappy Lady" is pretty good, not sure if she ships to US but the website would be worth checking for information anyway. It's where I got most of my information from.

Commenting again to add - flour sack towels are a great way to add absorbency to your diapers, and make sure microfiber inserts don’t touch your babies skin and go in the pockets because they can cause a rash. 
I have found that a flour sack towel and microfiber insert are enough for us overnight, I also have found that I like bamboo inserts and use those in some of our diapers. But we primarily have microfiber.

I cloth diaper both of my babies! Well, I will as soon as my daughter fits in the one size, she’s still a bit too small and I didn’t want to buy newborns.

I am! My daughter is turning 3 in October and is not ready to fully potty train. We were disposable diapering until we found out we were pregnant and decided we can not afford this all over again. Basically we spent a months worth of what we spend on disposable diapers to get started to get pocket diaper covers and inserts. To date we have spent maybe 3 months worth to get special designs (they are sooo much cuter than normal diapers!) It takes a little while to get a good wash routine going. There are Facebook groups that help a lot and a ton of resources online to help get a good wash routine. I can share more on my wash routine if you want, just let me know! We weren't sure if buying newborn sizes vs the one size fits all with adjusting snaps were worth it so we didn't buy enough newborns but they work great. They do leak a bit if you don't fasten it right, like any diaper. And if your wash routine needs adjusted you may run into issues with stink. We took about a month to get the routine down.
