Best way to reduce period pain???

I absolutely dread the day my period comes every month. It’s so bad that I throw up constantly because of the pain. I spend a lot of the day curled up in bed. I use to be a long distance runner and I would run every day of the week, I still run on my own although it’s not as much as I use to. I stopped doing competitive long distance running over a year ago and that’s when my cramps became unbearable. I’ve tried running days before my period and on my period and it has helped to an extent. I’ve stopped throwing up as much but I haven’t stopped completely. Is this normal??? What can I do to help lessen the pain???
