Intercourse during IUI cycle

Hey guys! This will be my first IUI cycle with clomid. I am expecting to ovulate cycle day 16 night or CD 17 morning. IUI will be performed either on CD 16 or CD 17 according to my RE and blood work.

This cycle we had intercourse only on CD 9 and CD 12 for the sake of having good quality semen for the IUI. I now regret not trying more this month , maybe on CD 14.

How many days do you usually try during an IUI cycle? How many days of abstinence is required before IUI?

Please help so I can do better later if necessary.
