Do your nipples hurt again with the next baby?

So for the first two weeks of nursing my son, my nipples definitely had to adjust. They got cracked and bled and I needed lanolin. It was fine after two weeks (1 year in now and going strong, no issues 💪) but I keep wondering- is it going to hurt for a few weeks with the next baby? I want to breastfeed either way, but I’d like to know what to expect. Anyone willing to share their experiences nursing in the first couple of weeks with babies #2 or #3 or so on?

Yes! It was worse with my second. My nipples actually bled with the second. I didn’t have those issues with the first. My second had a super shallow latch that didn’t get better until his mouth got bigger then no issues! ❤️❤️❤️

With my first I had cracked , bleeding , scabbing nipples and I cried with every feed or when I knew she was getting hungry. With my second now the pain was FAR less , they still had to adjust but it was mostly just burning for the first week or two , way easier ! We’re now 8 months in 😌

Yes, it will be uncomfortable the second time around but not nearly as bad as with the first. I also discovered nipple shields with my second that I wore for a bit after I was done nursing to give my nipples time to not be stimulated without the rubbing of fabric. The nipple shields were a life saver and I will definitely be using with my third in the spring. Good luck!

Yes but not as badly because I knew how to get a good latch.  My third has both a tongue and a lip tie though so I’m still sore at 12 months 🤣 not the cracked bleeding like with my first though.  Just general pain while nursing.

With my first I had cracked and bleeding nipples but with my 2nd, I did not. I still had pain with the 2nd, but it was because she had a high pallette and poor latch, which did get better over time. Not sure what to expect with #3 though.

I’m currently nursing our second child and she’s a month old. This experience has been way worse than nursing our son. With him I was sore but nothing that made me want to stop. With her, I was bleeding and crying every time she ate. That isn’t want breastfeeding should involve. Three lactation consultants and a pediatric dentist later, she had a lip and tongue tie corrected. Now it only hurts when she first latches but I am healed and she’s gaining weight (she wasn’t gaining like she should have been).

It was much better with my second. I still used nipple cream the first few weeks just to keep the skin healthy.

Not at all but I was still breastfeeding my toddler when I started breastfeeding my newborn
