Breech Birth, Natural Home Birth!

H

Hi ladies,

I’m posting this here mostly for the women with breech babies on the way who have been told they need to have a C section. I’ve no judgement of those who feel most comfortable having a C but for those that really want a vaginal birth this is for you!

I safely delivered my daughter at home with just my midwife and husband present. She was frank breech (bum first) and we didn’t know until she was coming out and my midwife noticed the little squishy bum instead of a head. My midwife was one of those old school legends who believe breech birth is just another normal presentation and new exactly what to do.

All in all I only laboured for 8 and half hours and she was out safe and sound! No pain relief other than a birthing pool. She’s now over 2.

There’s new studies coming out about breech birth being SAFER vaginally. Unfortunately commonly all our birth workers have been de-skilled from breech births. But there’s still those midwives out there who know their stuff you can find them! My midwife had vaginally delivered many breech babies safely.

Obviously I know my situation is slightly different as I didn’t know until I was pushing that she was breech, but it just goes to show even with being unprepared breech babies can turn out ok.

My wish is that this give some hope to those women who desperately want a vaginal/natural birth who’ve had it potentially taken from them. Do your research! Ask around and find those birth workers who know that breech is a normal presentation who will support you!

Good luck mamas

Edit: Just to be clear for people who can’t read, I’m not advocation for women to breech birth at home, I’m advocating for vaginal breech birth in whatever setting is safest for them. If that is the birth they want.

Vaginal breech birth and home birth are two separate arguments
