Pumping after nursing?

I’m a first time mom so I’m pretty clueless on all of this. First I should say the beginning of my breastfeeding journey was horrible. I suffered from multiple clogged ducts in each breast due to over production along with cracked and burning nipples. Now that I’ve finally worked out all the milk ducts and feel almost normal again I want to avoid that. I was told multiple times that the key to avoiding clogged ducts is to make sure your breasts are fully drained after each feeding. While nursing I use the haakaa on the non nursing breast and pump after the feeding for 5-7 minutes to ensure they’re empty. Does anyone else do that? Is it necessary or can I get by with just nursing and using the haakaa? My breasts do feel empty when pressed on, but when I use the pump I get about another ounce from each?
