Should I check my iud strings??

I’ve had my iud for a long long time and I’ve tried to look for the strings a few times but have never felt them 
When I go to the doctor she said they’re fine

They should have left a little bit of the string out for you to be able to feel. If you have never felt the strings I would be frustrated with your OB/GYN for cutting them too short. 
I check my strings once a month. I think the recommendation is every couple months.
