If we named her Katelyn we would call her Kate anyways so I’m not sure we should do Katelyn.

Kate is 100% nicer than Katelyn. 
If you feel she needs a “full” name I’d go with Katherine.

I 100% prefer Kate to Katelyn. If you want another "full name" option I suggest Kathleen, it's way nicer than Katelyn IMO and less comon nowadays.
