Toddler woke up very upset

My toddler (22 mos.) woke up this morning really upset and almost hyperventilating. I’ve never seen him this upset. He was pointing out the window and saying dada through his tears. Do you think he had a bad dream? I brought him into our bed and it took awhile to get him calm enough to get him dressed and off to daycare.
