Does your baby have the Perfect latch every time?

I am curious if anyone else's baby gets lazy about their latch at times too

If I latch her, she gags. So I have to let her just do her thing. I breastfed my first until 18+ months but had to stop due to being pregnant and he self weaned. So my nipples can handle her painful latch. But not at first. I bled quite a bit week one.

When she's half asleep and very hungry, she never gets it right for the first try.
Being sleepy in general is cue for an extremely shallow latch while trying to squeeze the nipple shut so the milk won't flow. She won't take a binky but sometimes she wants to suckle without milk... 😒
If she's awake and alert, she has a perfect latch alright!
