He CAN, but sometimes he won’t. 😆 I wanted him to be able to so when he wakes in the middle of the night during his sleep cycles, he wouldn’t need me to fall back asleep. 
He’s far better at this at night than he is for nap.

We are doing the awake but drowsy method and it works about 50% of the time.  I put her down when she is calm and eyelids are staring to get heavy. I swaddle, binki, dark room and fan on for every nap. When it works it’s amazing! The other half of the time I go in, give her a binki or rock her a bit more and lay her right back down. I don’t let her cry at all, but she is starting to really love her crib and sleep. We rarely nurse to sleep.  With my first child it took us hours to get him to calm down.🤷‍♀️

She's just starting to!
I've read from multiple sources that they lack the physiological prerequisites until around 4 months old (some earlier, some later), and before that most babies find it extremely difficult to fall asleep on their own, so I'm not at all worried.
We're taking this slowly. My little one actually just recently started enjoying any kind of time spent not on me. She had some fun tummy time on a play mat earlier, but most of the time she wanted to be held so we did a lot of tummy time on my chest too. The past week or so she likes lying down on either on tummy or back, and just looking at things. A couple of times she fell asleep completely on her own, but it's not yet a regular thing.

My daughter can but I've found she sleeps longer if I help her (I breastfeed her). So I help put her to sleep 99% of the time so I get a good long stretch of sleep out of her.

Sometimes. We are practicing putting him down awake and sometimes he goes to sleep and other times he is not happy unless we hold him until he is asleep. Overnight he usually falls asleep during vertical time and lets us lay him right down.
